Shield

We all seek to find a sense of belonging in this world. Instinctively everyone needs to feel like they are a part of something bigger than themselves. We need a tribe. Finding a sense of belonging is often achieved through ritual and symbolism. My own personal iconography and symbolism are the departure points in these works of art. They are paintings and drawings of shields either literal or symbolic. They can be considered talismans to protect the bearer from harm. They also are seen to represent the polar opposite, flowers of peace. The lotus has been associated with meditation and spirituality since the beginning of time. Both the shield and the flower offer protection from the world around us.

This painting is done on a 3/4 inch profile canvas. The edges have been black.The painting is executed in Ferrario and Holbein Professional Quality oil paints. Varnish has been applied to protect the surface of the paint. The painting is signed on the front and comes with a certificate of authenticity.
