I am often asked why I create the images that I do. Some of the questions I get are just out of curiosity, while others are designed to be confrontational.
Although I don’t intentionally mean to shock or confront the viewer with the content in my imagery, I do understand that many people have issues with imagery and ideas that challenge their personal views on sexuality. Many individuals have suppressed not only the sexual aspects of their lives but other parts of their lives due to familial, societal and religious beliefs. Because of these belief systems and personal life experiences, many cannot move past these hurdles and look inward to find out what they believe in their core. Critical thinking is also acceptable because, with critical thinking, there is progress in art and everything else.
My views on sexuality are forever changing as I age and evolve. Everyone’s views should change with time. If your views are not evolving you may need to ask yourself why. We must begin a dialogue with ourselves before having a dialogue with others.
When having a discussion, remember that kindness and compassion can positively impact those around us without causing harm.
